Near Sitka, this waterfall is from a lake that flows into the ocean. When the glaciers receded, the land near the mountain decompressed from the weight of the glacier more rapidly than the adjacent land. This caused the land to rise above the ocean and form a freshwater lake from the runoff of the mountain.
